Our FOURTH Edmund has just gone inactive, and the Pevensies have only gotten from the train station to the castle ruins in the year and a half that Into Narnia has been around.  Obviously, this poses a problem that affects everyone, as the plot as it currently stands is very much dependent on the Pevensies. (The Narnian plot anyways. Our nascent plots for Calormen and Archenland are completely separate.)

Our staff members, therefore, have come up with four possible options, listed here in the order of changes necessary to implement them (least to greatest):

1. Go on as we were – This one is pretty self explanatory. We’d simply do what we’ve been doing, and hope that we can find an active Edmund and get the Pevensie plot moving along. To help ensure that a new Edmund was active, we’d likely only allow our more established members to apply for him.

Pros:
  • We can stay closer to canon.
  • Would require less work on everyone’s part, in terms of coming up with new plots, etc.

Cons:
  • There is no guarantee we can find an active Edmund.
  • There is no guarantee that any or all of the Pevensies will stay active, and we may find ourselves in a stalemate. (Though we could try to set up new rules to encourage activity.)

2. Jump to the point where the Pevensies join the Narnians – We’d skip everything that happens between the current point in our plot, and the point where the Pevensies first meet Caspian and his army. We’d allow flashback threads, so that people could play out anything that happened in the meantime.  As in the above option, we’d likely only allow our more established members to apply for any inactive Pevensie.

Pros:
  • We can stay closer to canon.
  • Would allow those Pevensies who are active to interact with the Narnians, and vice versa.
  • We could have possibly have the Pevensies (and Trumpkin) jump to the current place in the Narnian/Telmarine plot, so that the only change would be for the Pevensies.
Cons:
  • Current plots/threads would be disrupted (at least for the Pevensies and Trumpkin), and we would miss out playing anything that happens during the jump. (Though there will be a flashback forum for characters to play things that happened in the past.)
  • We could still run into the problem of inactive Pevensies, which could keep the whole plot back.
  • Once the Pevensies join the Narnians, there isn’t much of the plot left, at least according to the book.  (However, we could definitely add movie elements, or continue the plot even past the end of the book.)

3. Take out the Pevensie plot – This would effectively turn our plot into an AU, as we would RP what might have happened if the Pevensies had never arrived in Narnia during Prince Caspian. This is mostly what has been going on so far, actually, since our Pevensies have not been all that active, and our other characters have had to improvise. Also, if we wanted, we could keep some of the main plot points from the book/movie (the castle raid, Glozelle and Sopesian’s betrayal, a duel with Miraz, etc.), modifying them to fit the lack of Pevensies.

Pros:
  • The plot would no longer rely so much on the Pevensies, or really, any characters except for perhaps Caspian and Miraz. This means that if people leave or get busy, we aren’t waiting.
  • Other characters could have a bigger role in what goes on.
  • Allows us much more creativity in coming up with plots.
  • Our plots for Calormen and Archenland are AU already.
  • We  might even be able to find a good way to connect the Calormen and Archenland plots more strongly with the Narnian one.

Cons:
  • We would no longer be following the book/movie.
  • Would require a lot of work on the part of everyone, to come up with an AU plot that works (but I’m confident we can do it, because to some extent we’re doing it already).
  • Caspian has already blown the horn, so we’d have to figure out what help Aslan sent (Although Aslan can still come, or it could be something completely different from canon).
  • The Narnians are disadvantaged, and it will be hard for them to win without the Pevensies (but not impossible, especially with Drinian coming to their side, Sephen likely to completely commit to them soon, the dissent that Glozelle is leading, and perhaps the Archenlanders coming to their aid.)

4. Restart the plot, setting it in a different era – Basically, we’d scratch everything we have, and start over in a new era (which one is still in the air).

Pros:
  • We wouldn’t be in the stalemate we currently are in, with having inactive Pevensies.

Cons:
  • We’d have to get rid of any of the plots we’ve done up to this point.
  • If you wanted to keep your characters, you’d have to change them to fit with the new plot.
  • Most of the books involve a couple of central characters from Earth, and we could run into the same problem.

This poll will run for one week (i.e. until 11:59 CDT (GMT -5) on Sunday, October 11).   You may vote as many times as you have characters. Note that the staff reserves the right to make the final decision, but we would very much like to hear your opinions.

Please feel free to discuss the options in a reply below, if you’re comfortable. It may help you make a decision if you’re undecided, or sway others to your decision if you really want one of the options. (Changing your vote is allowed!)

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to reply to this, but I would like to state my opinion for the way I'm going to vote - I'm not trying to sway anyone else.

We have to have the Pevensies, and we can't just get rid of everything - certainly not by deleting the whole plot, and jumping ahead wouldn't solve anything if we don't have Ed anway.  I'm sure someone will apply for him and do it right this time.  Heck, if no one else does, I will!  But I don't want to see this site change too much, because that would make me sad and people might leave Sad

Everyone, please don't be afraid to reply! Your reasons for voting are actually more helpful to us than your actual votes.

*agrees with Reep* I'd apply for Edmund myself if it weren't for the fact that I'm going to be very MIA all November. In fact, I might still anyway because even with that little missing piece there, I don't plan on leaving this site any time soon. Changing the site would just be... Very disheartening. Taking out the Pevensies's- well, the war just went down the drain. And jumping ahead in the Pevensie plot would be seriously... Like, Reep said, there's still no Ed. It wouldn't work for very long.

Well, I have been very interested in taking Edmund for a while, and was sort of just waiting for him to go inactive. If I take him, I will promise to be as active as possible, and post lots, etc. I believe I'll try out with an application ASAP, and if it's good enough maybe some of this can be avoided? My only problem is that I really feel like I should read the books again to re-grasp his character, but a friend is borrowing mine at the moment... But, as I said, I'll try my best. -crosses fingers-

But like I said, if I take someone as key as Edmund I will be sure to be active! Sometimes I do get quite busy, but I can easily get in a few posts a week, and try to keep up as needed. (:

I thought it might be nice to speed along the movement to the How, at least, because as most of it is largely following a scripted plot, it leaves for very little room for invention. I think what will be most interesting is to see how our canon characters interact with our originals, and how much our originals -- or our take on the story -- changes dynamics (though not, likely, the actual plot).

And, of course, we can alway role play after the war, too! Cheesy

Bump so more people see it. It'd be nice to get some more input before the vote closes tomorrow.

We staff members never got back to everyone about the results of this, sorry! The reason is that the number of votes for each of the first two options were so close, especially if we count only one vote per member instead of one per character.

Because which of the two choices we end up using will affect the Pevensies and Trumpkin the most, I'm going to start a discussion of what to do under the Pevensies and Trumpkin plot thread in the Plot forum, and we'll figure it out from there.
