Sephen de la Braose

Read the Application
Played by Kai

"Sephen is an intriguing character, who out of prudence,  provides supplies for Miraz, but out of conviction and loyalty, also supplies the Old Narnians.  He has several interesting story lines, which together make him complex and lifelike."

Not sure. Do you usually disagree upon principle, or by happenstance?

Here, here! Now give me back my bow! ... Wait... *blink* Did I just AGREE with CASPIAN? o.O
February 25, 2010, 12:55:24 PM
What about hiding only the weapons of Miraz's army?
February 24, 2010, 02:11:17 PM
What about we start by hiding everyone's weapons?
January 30, 2010, 09:42:09 PM
We can just play some game that doesn't include our weapons being hijacked like Hide and Seek.
January 29, 2010, 08:24:52 PM
I don't like games that include my bow being hijacked! It is very special to me! *climbs other tree*
January 29, 2010, 01:58:18 PM
I know right??
January 29, 2010, 08:26:42 AM
Someone who doesn't like games? I never knew a person who did. Come on, there's no one who hates them! Games are like, fun.

Evil (waves the bow around)

You don't understand. And I don't like games! *climbs back down and goes toward other tree*

(sighs) Be patient, milady. Dzuna will give it back once it stops being fun; that is, when you stop chasing her.

Thinking of creating another character? Into Narnia could particularly use more non-humans (particularly Talking Animals), Telmarines (esp. soldiers), Archenlanders, Calormenes, and member requests.

About You
Name: Julie
Age: 18
How did you find us: playing Glozelle... and Trumpkin... and Reepicheep...
Rules Password: [Password Accepted ~Cara]

Character Basics
Full Name: Peter William Pevensie
Alias(es)/Nickname(s): Pete.  But only Ed can call him that.  For what everyone else calls him, see titles list below.
Gender: Male
Age: 15
Species: Human
Status/Title: High King Peter, the Magnificent; Sir Peter Wolfs-bane, Knight of the Most Noble Order of the Lion; Lord of Cair Paravel; Emperor of the Lone Islands
Affiliation: For Narniaaaa!

Character Appearance
Hair: Dark/dirty blonde, with highlights from the sun which have been somewhat darkened after a year of boarding school.
Eyes: Blue as the sea, and they look about as deep.
Overall:
Distinguishing Marks: none tangible, though he does have sort of a kingly air about him. The battle scars he gained during the Golden Age strangely disappeared when he returned to England.

Clothing: Though he would do anything to be otherwise, Peter is now a schoolboy, and even if he doesn’t act it, he looks it.  He can be seen most often in a smart blazer and slacks, dark blue in color with the embroidered crest of his school.  Under his blazer he wears a crisp white shirt and sharp tie.  It’s funny how he dressed more comfortably than this when he was High King (well, except at Susan’s balls, of course).  Despite his uniform, there is still something about Peter that is different from the other boys.  Perhaps it is the fact that he always looks a bit unkempt, as if he doesn’t belong there, or the unassuming way he carries his books under his arm like they weigh nothing.  He would rather wear armor and carry a sword than live under these current obligations.

Overall appearance: Peter is somewhat muscular, though not as much as he was when he was a king during the Golden Age because his recent return from England has left him little time to practice his swordsmanship. His blonde hair is growing into his blue eyes, giving him a rugged look that he secretly likes (though the hair gets in his face sometimes). The second time he has grown up, he is turning once again into a tall, broad-chested young man, and has become quite handsome. His face is hard and often displays a scowl from all the worrying he does, but it would be lovely if he ever felt content.

Portrayal: William Moseley

General Personality: Poor Peter simply hasn’t been living up to his name recently.  Even though he’s supposed to be the rock of his family, when change is all around someone, it’s hard not to change with them.  He’s had considerable success in retaining his morals – sometimes to the point of it causing fights – but being taken away from Narnia has been hard on him.  Where he used to be the humble servant of Aslan, now that Aslan has seemed so far away, he started to serve his siblings, and has gotten to the point where his misplaced worry only serves himself.  He is extremely stubborn – that has not changed, and neither has aforementioned worry – and insists that nothing is different about him, but in truth, everything is different.  He has always acted like something of an adult, especially since his father left for the war what seemed like many years ago, but after living for many years as an adult, going back to being kid, and treated like it, has been quite the transition.  He still hasn’t done a very good job of adjusting.  His anger, which is mostly at himself, has been misdirected at other boys at his school and, on the painful rare occasion, at his siblings.  But the worst thing of all is that the normally-exuberant boy has grown more and more isolated in the resulting depression state.

While usually good at respecting other people, especially authority figures, back during the Golden Age and before, now that Peter has had his own power taken away, he seems to want to undermine that of others.  He has become power-hungry, desirous to be in charge of anything, and has taken to bossing other people around.  Of course, he’s always been fond of doing this, but now it is in a harsher and more negative light.  He can be impulsive, brash, and temperamental.  It seems that the High King, who he wanted so desperately to be again, is being lost by his own doing.  He only wishes to have that side of his personality back, the one which still resurfaces occasionally: the side of him who can joke with the otherwise solemn Edmund, kiss Lu on the forehead and protect her from anything, who has to be forced into attending Susan’s extravagant balls.  It still lingers, this side of him.  He is known for fiercely defending his sisters’ honor (unnecessarily, of course) from any boy who even speaks to them… the one positive of going to separate boys’ and girls’ schools.  If he ever wanted to connect with people again, he could do so easily, because of his natural charm and ease with others.  He is wise, determined, and far too hard on himself, meaning that he is all the more desperate to go back to the better Peter, the one he used to be.  His self-efficacy is beginning to exhaust him, but he doesn’t know what else to do.

He doesn’t know what to do in Narnia again… nothing and everything, he supposes.  Narnia has changed, but so has he.  Perhaps there is a reason for this.  Perhaps the hero Narnia needs now is not the same boy he once was, but rather the person he is now.  His bitterness and vendetta against everything which opposes Narnia brings an edge to the Narnian army – but will this sharpness also cut his family further?  He wants to think that Narnia can heal everything, just like it did before.  His strength, intelligence, determination, and leadership would be just what Narnia needs to break free of the tyranny of the Telmarines – and surely his old accomplishments can only help him to gain the trust of the “Old Narnians”.  He wants to believe that Aslan will save them, really he does, but after they were brought back to England, he doesn’t know what he can believe anymore.

Character History
Family: father John and mother Helen Pevensie, siblings Susan, Edmund, and Lucy Pevensie

General History:
Peter William Pevensie was born in 1927, one year before his younger sister Susan, three years before his younger brother Edmund, and four years before his other younger sister Lucy. He was born in Finchley, in the English countryside, and would live there for the rest of his life. His parents, John and Helen Pevensie, always expected a lot of him, and he was sure that someday, he would be something great. He had no idea just how magnificent he would one day be.

When his father was drafted into World War II in 1942, he became the man of the house. He took it up as his duty to take care of family. He had always been protective of them, as the oldest sibling, but this flew into high gear once his father was gone. He started to favor quiet, easy-going Lucy over temperamental Edmund and sometimes-bossy Susan. This caused some problems in the relationships with his other siblings, but he did his best to manage. He convinced himself that as long as he could just keep them together until their father came back, everything would be all right.

While Susan did most of the domestic duties, he concentrated on his schoolwork. His father had told him to be a good boy and to do well in school, so that was his goal. He studied harder than any other boy his age, and became quite an intelligent young man. He grew fond of reading and history, because it seemed like you could live someone else’s life without worrying about your own. However, it was difficult to escape from the “real world” when it was getting so dangerous and busy, so his imagination faded along with his childhood.

Soon after the beginning of the war, he was sent of to live with a Professor. As he had to do in order to keep up hope, he tried to make the best of it, and convinced his siblings to do the same. And things went even better than expected when they fell into Narnia. At the beginning, he was hoping it would just be a fun escape from everything they were experiencing, but it became much more than that when he found out that Lucy was the reason her friend had gotten arrested, and then Edmund ran away. They clearly were about to begin an adventure.

He still wasn’t convinced of the seriousness of the prophecy until they saw Father Christmas, who gave Peter a sword, Rhindon, and a shield. It was with this sword that Peter saved his sisters from drowning and later death by wolves. He was knighted by Aslan for the latter feat. Then, Edmund was returned to them. Instead of being angry, Peter was thankful. And in the end, Edmund became Peter’s greatest support – he actually saved his life in the ensuing Battle of Beruna, where both of them were injured by Jadis, the evil witch who had tempted and captured Edmund. By the time the siblings were coronated, everything was good between the brothers again – better than it ever had been. Peter became a good king, a wise and strong leader in contrast to his brother’s quiet pursuit of justice. Everyone balanced each other out nicely, and they began to rule Narnia together.

Suddenly, they were returned to England one day. They were children again. A long and difficult year passed, in which Peter grew steadily more and more disgusted with his current state of affair. He longed to visit Narnia again but his faith was faltering. Though he had always been a good and intelligent boy, his studies floundered and he began to get in fights. His sisters worried and his brother helped him fight. It was a welcome relief to be returned to Narnia once more.

Other/Notes: nope.  Other than I luff him Grin

Quote
Peter realized that it was going to get dark soon, which was rather strange that he hadn’t noticed it before, and he also thought – somewhat belatedly – that the girls were also probably tired and even hungry, as he knew that he was and Edmund always was too. Good old Edmund. Whenever he had left over table scraps, he could always count on his younger brother. Now that Peter had stopped growing, Peter was relying on this more and more. But he was happier to count on Edmund in many other ways, too. Something inside him had known innately that Edmund would return home safe and sound. Edmund wouldn’t let himself die alone without at least a goodbye to his dearest siblings. Not liking this train of thought and were it was going – Edmund was home safe now, after all – Peter quickly said, “I suppose we should all go up and get clean. You’re filthy, Ed,” he commented cheerfully, choosing not to mention that he was also dirty and bloodied beyond any respectable sight. “Then we can all have supper together, and then retire. I’m sure we have plenty of rooms for you, girls, if you will give us the pleasure of your company for a night. I’m afraid our servants are not all here yet, because we’ve just arrived and we’re hiding from someone— (probably not the best thing to mention, I suppose)— but I hope you find the accommodations satisfactory here, should you choose to remain.” Well done, Pete, he silently chastised himself. Why did he always babble around Natalie? She sure liked to make him feel stupid. And so did Edmund, for that matter, another thing that the two of them had in common. It was rather strange. And it was not much of a comfort knowing that both of them would be more than happy to give him a deprecating stare if he said or did something stupid. It was good to humble him, he knew, and now he had not one but two people who would do it for him. Oh, splendid. He didn’t even dare look at Edmund, because he was sure the boy had a gloating smirk on his face, entertained by his brother’s idiocy.

Well, Edmund still wasn’t aware of Peter’s secret plans. This, at least, gave Peter some leverage. It might be said that he was slightly disappointed that Natalie had arrived with things to heal Edmund, because he had actually been looking forward to picking Edmund up like a baby and carrying him off to wherever the healers were. Peter shouldn’t have been surprised if there were no healers at all. He didn’t blame Caspian for keeping this place very scarcely staffed, because for a long time no one had even been here for them to serve, and it wasn’t exactly conspicuous to send off a bunch of servants to a place where no one was supposed to be living. It would raise attention – from the Telmarines, certainly, and even worse from Miraz and Jadis who were both now very alive. He realized that he hadn’t told Edmund this yet. It was probably a good idea not to, at least for now, until he got settled and got a bit of rest. Peter and Edmund were partners in battle, and they didn’t make any important decisions without the aid of the other. So their plan to take down Miraz and Jadis and all of their wretched followers was just going to have to wait another day. Peter was going to worry Edmund if he mentioned any of that, especially given the awful history that Edmund had with the latter enemy. He couldn’t bear to put any of that on Edmund’s shoulders, not so soon after their reunion, anyway. No, he couldn’t do it. He didn’t ever want to. He knew that he would have to, eventually, but knowing that he had to do it only made it harder, not easier. Eventually, yes, he would do it… but not right now. Right now, he just wanted to rejoice in his brother’s company, and in his safety, and in his return. Life was good at this moment. No danger was threatening them right now. Nothing in the immediate vicinity, anyway. Things were peaceful. It was a strange interlude between two battles, Peter got the feeling. But it was an interlude all the same, and he was going to take advantage of it. Perhaps not by carrying his brother and humiliating him, as fun as this would have been. Edmund had issues with people taking care of him; he liked to do things himself. He had this trait for a long time, since he was a child, actually, and who was Peter to interfere? Well, he was the High King, actually, and he could do what he wanted. But he didn’t want to risk getting Edmund mad, even if it was quite fun to do so.

No one could even describe how much he loved Edmund. He loved all of his siblings, of course – it was easy, and obvious, and natural for him to do so. But after all that had happened to Edmund, well, it was sort of a given that Peter would worry about him. Love automatically equated to worry for someone like Peter. Not only because he was the High King, but because he was the eldest brother, and felt innately responsible for the welfare of his family. He had promised many times to take care of everyone, and just as many times he had failed to do so. The most glaring example of this was, of course, the time when Edmund had been captured and nearly killed by Jadis. He would have been dead, if not for Lucy’s cordial, and Susan killing the Dwarf Ginnarbrik who had been about to do young Edmund in. It was Peter who took responsibility for all of this. He had been too hard on Edmund, causing him to run away and straight into the White Witch’s eagerly waiting arms. It had been an awful experience, one which Peter certainly didn’t want to bring up again, and had since that time Peter had done absolutely everything in his power to make sure that nothing like it happened again. He had utterly wiped out any traces of the White Witch’s minions. Or so he had thought. It seemed like they had sprung up again, not in as great of numbers as they had been before, but any at all was too many, in Peter’s eyes. In a strange way, he had attributed all of this to be his fault too, the fact that Edmund had been missing, the fact that Jadis was back. It was a cruel, strange parallel to a past life. He didn’t like it. He hated not having Edmund by his side, for any amount of time. The fact that it had been for nearly a week in an almost unfamiliar (the passage of time changed landscapes as well as people) land had worried Peter even more than usual. But who could blame him? He only felt right whenever his brother was beside him. Because Edmund seemed to think that he could take care of himself, Peter felt all the more obliged to take care of him. It was his duty, and his honor, and his pleasure. No matter how much Edmund might complain about being fussed over.

He couldn’t even imagine being in Narnia without Edmund. He had known that Edmund had to be in Narnia with them. Aslan would surely not have been cruel enough to separate them again. Last time it happened, it had almost been the death of all of them. Of course, it had all ended up well, and everything had been used to Aslan’s purposes and it had been all right in the end. But Peter wasn’t sure he could handle another bout of such intense suffering. Not for even another month, perhaps less. Sure, he was the one who was called the High King, but it was clear to him and probably at least to his siblings if not everyone else in Narnia as well just how important his siblings were to him. There was simply no way he could possibly rule Narnia without them. Each one played their own important rule in keeping Peter sane and alive. He wouldn’t survive without them, he was sure of that. So the thought of Edmund and Lucy being in Narnia, while he and Susan might have remained in England where Susan would have gone off by herself and left Peter alone anyway… it was all absolutely terrifying. It wasn’t even the thought of ruling alone that scared Peter; it was the thought of living alone. Perhaps that’s why he’d latched onto Aslan so easily and felt so comforted by the Great Lion, because it felt like he was always there and he knew that he could trust the Lion just as much as he could trust his own sisters and brother. He loved his siblings. He needed them. Probably more than they needed him. When it came down to it, they could likely protect themselves. His overprotectiveness was just another way to show how much he loved them, and how much he needed a reason to be with them all the time. He would die if they died, it was as simple as that. So he protected them fiercely, from anything and everything, be it a boy or a witch or simply an imaginary monster under the bed, because he had learned that monsters could be all too real and the things that were really scary in the dark were one’s own thoughts. He knew that Edmund had nightmares, a lot. And Peter was sure that he’d had just as many, for his own reasons. It haunted him. Everything came together in a frightening array. Edmund certainly had no idea how many times he’d died in Peter’s dreams. And he probably didn’t know either, though he must have some idea, how many of Peter’s fears which had come out in dreams had been assuaged that Edmund had returned alive and in one piece.

His siblings, more than Narnia and perhaps the same as Aslan, were the most important things in his life. Narnia was only significant because they had gone there with him. He’d only found Aslan because they’d led him to the Lion. It was strange and yet not strange at all how very much their lives were intertwined. Someone looking at the family from the outside would never understand how important they were to each other, how much it pained them to be separated. Natalie had gotten a glimpse of it earlier, and Peter was quite certain that she had thought him mad for it. And he couldn’t really blame her. He couldn’t even explain why his siblings were so dear to him. It was a bit unusual, he supposed, that they were so close, but no other families that he knew had jointly ruled a kingdom for fifteen years. No, no one else had gone through as much together as the Pevensie children had. Tragedy and triumph had bound them together, as tightly as two interwoven strings could bind together twigs. It always pleased Peter to hear his siblings talk about each other, because they were described in such glowing terms. Even when they were unhappy with each other, it was usually because they were scared for each other, or wanted the other to be safer and/or happier than the other currently was. They looked out for each other like that. No one else would understand it, nor would Peter expect them to. So it was odd that Natalie was here, again, to witness it. He certainly didn’t mind her presence, but of course he was focused on Edmund at the moment. He smiled as Edmund talked about their dear sisters. “Yes, I do know,” he answered smilingly. He had been the “victim” of Susan and Lucy many times before. Neither of them really minded it, though sometimes they pretended to just to tease the girls. It was fun. They had good times together. Whenever things got bad, they could always trust one of them to be cheerful and lift the spirits of the others. “The girls will be so happy to see you, Ed,” Peter added, with more solemnity despite the continued smile on his face. They both knew that he wasn’t just describing the girls’ feelings. Peter was ecstatic beyond all belief that Edmund was home again. Even if he couldn’t describe it in words, he was, and he knew Edmund understood it.

Speaking of girls, Peter realized that he had been somewhat ignoring the two other girls, the ones that they had not met before today. He nodded to Natalie’s words. “Oh, she belongs with you, does she?” Peter grinned amicably, first at Natalie and then at Layla. “Well, then, Lady Uzuri, welcome to Cair Paravel. I hope it pleases you. Like I said, you're both welcome to stay here with us for dinner and to rest for the night or until you are ready to travel again. Any friend of Natalie’s is a friend of mine.” Turning neatly, he gave Natalie a little wink. He knew how much Natalie loathed him at times – she was very emotionally unstable, it seemed, because one moment she could adore him and then hate him the next, and they had not even spent that many moments together. So it satisfied him to annoy her a little bit. He knew that he could get her goat quite easily, judging by the way that she had reacted to him earlier whenever he had said anything. She was a bit fun to play with, she was, because even though she always tried not to show her emotions she did so anyway, and more fully because she was trying to hide them. This was quite ironic, and it was all the more ironic that Peter thought it was funny when he did the same thing himself. Natalie knew this, too, and so did Edmund, which made it all the more interesting. The only person present who probably didn’t realize how quirky Peter was would be Uzuri, and if she stuck around long enough, then she was sure to find out soon. Peter had been told often – mostly by Edmund, of course – how very peculiar he was, and already it seemed he had left a strange impression on Uzuri. Oh well. Nothing could ruin his current good mood, he didn’t think. And why should it? Why shouldn’t he be happy? He was feeling playful, perhaps even mischievous, at the moment. Having his brother at his side once more had lifted his spirits exponentially, and he was acting a bit silly, almost giddy, around him now. Not to the point of irritation, just enough in the hopes that everyone else would catch his likely infectious happiness. It was a good day, the best one he thought he’d had in a very long while. Being reunited with Edmund here in Narnia was almost better than coming to Narnia at all. Narnia had fixed everything once, and he was sure that it would do so again.

Wonderful job, as always! The only comment I have to make here is that some of your sections (clothing/likes/dislikes/personality/etc.) seem to be geared more towards a time period during the Golden Age rather than during the beginning of Prince Caspian.  Maybe you could tweak those to better reflect our current setting?
