Drin's pretty much the definition of sweet. If you're on his good side. He's not necessarily cruel if you're not. More a "righteous fury." But as a diplomat, he sees his job as making everyone (who ought to be/needs to be) as comfortable as possible. But he's VERY glad Weylin likes him.

General Personality:
Adimon is good at his position, and he knows it. He works hard at what he does, though, so no one can blame him for his pride.  Almost everything he does is somehow related to his job. He has little free time, but that is perfectly fine with him, for he hates time spent in useless activities. Adimon is very austere, caring little for bodily pleasures of any kind. He doesn't go out of his way to discomfort himself, but if he must put up with discomfort, he will. On the other side of the coin, Adimon never indulges himself, and he disdains those who do indulge themselves in excess.  Therefore, whenever possible, he stays away from court functions on pretense of business, though his rank would allow him to take part in all of them.  When he does go, it?s usually to find out information or to do something else related to his job, and so he puts up with it. While he doesn?t like participating in these functions, and thinks poorly of those who do, he is able to hide this from all but the most observant.  Adimon can be very diplomatic and even charming if necessary.

Usually, however, Adimon is not a very social person.  His view of humanity is pretty cynical, for he feels most humans are stupid, lazy, and prone to evil.  True, he doesn't often doesn't show people, especially at court, that he thinks little of them, for often it benefits him more if they think he likes them.  But he tries to avoid people he dislikes as much as possible. However, Adimon does enjoy the company of people who, in his opinion, have the same sense and intellect as he does. Still, he rarely forms an intimate connection with even with the people he does socialize with, for he has a hard time opening up and showing emotion.  Even with Miraz he is fairly reserved, though he is more open with the king than he is with others. His mother is one of the only people he is completely open with.

Adimon hates change, and holds peace and stability in the highest regard.  In his mind, only power and authority in the hands of a strong ruler can achieve these things.  However, he has no ambitions of attempting to attain any more power and authority for his own than he already has in his current position. Instead, he supports Miraz wholeheartedly. He even thinks that the death of Caspian is a necessary evil, for Caspian cares too much about others to be a strong ruler and has ideas that would shake up the order of things. Caspian would try to listen to all of his subjects, and thus appease none of them. This would inevitably bring about arguments and perhaps give rise to a coup or even a civil war. Telmarines, after all, need little excuse to start a fight.  It was much better that one boy die quickly and quietly than many people die in a civil war. Moreover, because of Caspian's superstition, he would probably try to bring back the so-called "Old Narnians", thereby spending a good deal of time, money, and effort on pursuing a myth.

Because of the training necessary for his position, Adimon is widely read.  He knows at least a little about almost every subject one can name.  He loves to read, and enjoys a good scholarly debate. However, all this bookishness does not mean that Adimon is not well-suited for the aspects of his job involving the outdoors, aspects in which he is also well-trained. Because he does not need much for comfort and he lacks superstition, he cares little whether he is sleeping in his room in the castle or on the ground in the woods.  In fact, in some respects, Adimon would rather be in the outdoors, for it means he doesn?t run in to as many of the types of people he likes to avoid (and he often takes a book along just in case he has time to read).

Reason is everything to Adimon. Therefore, for the longest time, he denied the existence of Old Narnians or of magic and thought the superstitions that many Telmarines held ridiculous. However, when the skirmishes between Caspian and Miraz?s army began, he was confronted with the truth.  This rocked him for a bit, as it was a drastic change to his worldview and he doesn?t do well with change.  However, once he accepted the idea, he came to the conclusion that anything magical, including Old Narnians, is against the natural order of things and ought to be completely eradicated.  This gave him new impetus in his fight against Caspian?s army.

Character History
Parents: Dalred Atercas Tescar and Natissa Fen Tescar (n?e Pavramorn)
Siblings: None

General History:
Adimon was born to Sir Dalred and Lady Natissa Tescar.  At the time, Sir Dalred was the Private Secretary to King Caspian VIII, and Lady Natissa was a lady-in-waiting to the queen.  Adimon?s early life was uneventful, marked only by his training, which began at a very young age. The Private Secretary was a hereditary position, and required a wide range of skills and knowledge. Basically, the Private Secretary was the king?s right hand man, a combination of advisor, clerk, messenger, and spy.  Anything the official said was to be obeyed at once, for it was understood to be the will of the king.  Therefore, the future Private Secretary had to know at least a little about everything involved in running the kingdom. He even trained to be a soldier, for the Telmarines were a warmongering people and the Private Secretary had to be able to defend the king if necessary.

Most of the time, Adimon enjoyed his training.  The reading was his favorite aspect, and any book-learned material came easily to him.  He quickly formed his own views on everything from politics to agriculture, though he also learned to keep to himself any of his views that were untraditional.  The outdoor training -- sword fighting, archery, surviving in the forest, spywork -- came less easily to him. But he never complained, and worked so hard in those areas that even his teachers -- who some other young men considered slave drivers -- would try to get him to take a rest.  He never became an expert at any of the warrior skills, but he was more than proficient, which was enough since fighting was not his primary responsibility but a last resort.  He did, however, become one of the best in the kingdom at each of the other skills.

When Adimon was around the age of 13, Miraz, already planning his coup, took him under his wing.  Sir Dalred did not like this, for he did not like Miraz. However, he said nothing, for without proof of Miraz?s bad intent, he could not gainsay the king?s younger son.  Caspian VIII died when Adimon was 15, leaving Caspian IX to be king.  Miraz began actively forming a plan to unseat his older brother from the throne. Adimon supported this, for he felt that Miraz would be a much stronger king than his brother. Sir Dalred, now Private Secretary to Caspian IX, began to suspect Miraz of ill intent even more, but before he gathered any concrete proof, he was killed by brigands while running an errand for the king.  This was just the first of the many sudden, unexpected deaths or disappearances of Caspian IX?s most faithful that would take place in the next 5 years, but Miraz took particular care that his young prot?g? did not know Miraz's own role in this one.

Upon his father?s death, Adimon became Caspian IX?s Private Secretary.  Before he officially assumed the role, however, he was knighted.  Most future private secretaries were knighted at 21, like any other knight, but it was also tradition that they be knighted before they take on their official role, even if they weren't 21 yet. This could easily be done because the knighthood was in this case simply an honorific title, and a formal way for the future Private Secretary to declare allegiance to the king.  Private secretaries must undergo their own specialized training; they don't have time to go through the typical page and squire process. And once they were a knight, their duties were not the typical military ones, though they did fight when necessary.

In appearance, Adimon was a dutiful and loyal Private Secretary.  Sir Dalred had been much trusted by both Caspian IX and his father, and the king saw nothing in Adimon that would warrant less faith in him than there had been in his father.  Adimon was still loyal to Miraz, but he felt no qualms about acting his part to Caspian IX.  Sure, when Miraz' plan came to fruition, it would turn out poorly for Caspian.  Adimon regretted that, for he had nothing against the king.  But Caspian was really too weak of a king and therefore it would be in the best interest of Narnia that Miraz take his place.

It was in good part thanks to Adimon's intimate connection with the king that Miraz was able to complete his plan so successfully three years later. No one suspected that Adimon would be anything but loyal to Caspian IX, so no information was withheld from him.  Adimon knew all of Caspian's plans and habits, and so therefore could tell Miraz exactly where Caspian would be at any time and who would be with him.  Adimon also played a large role in determining who could be trusted on to support Miraz, who would only be loyal to Caspian IX or his son, and who fell somewhere in between. Apart from gathering information, Adimon's role allowed him to send messages and give orders that were really from Miraz in the name of the king. With this help, Miraz thus became ruler of Narnia, and Adimon retained his role as Private Secretary, though most other top officials were replaced.

Through all of this, Lady Natissa remained in the court of whatever queen was currently reigning.  First as the Private Secretary's wife, and then as the Private Secretary's mother, she had a lot of influence in the court of Caspian VIII and IX.  When Miraz took over, she did not like it one bit, but said nothing out of fear. She suspects the truth behind her husband's death (though she does not tell her son this, because he trusts Miraz too much to believe her when she has no proof) and does not want the same thing to happen to her.  Miraz has shown that he will have a woman killed as easily as he would have a man killed.  Natissa no longer has any direct influence because of her late husband's loyalty to the Caspians.  Still, she does have influence over her son -- for she is one of the few people he cares about -- and therefore she has an indirect influence on the king. She uses this influence sparingly and very carefully, but it has proved beneficial in moderating the king?s actions in a few situations.

In his last 13 years as Miraz?s Private Secretary, Adimon?s skill, loyalty, and lack of ambition have proved invaluable to the king. He has worked diligently at his job, carrying messages, providing advice, and spying on others. Adimon is in no hurry to get married, though he knows it will be his duty to marry and have an heir at some point. He doesn?t worry about it, though; Miraz will make him a match that will be beneficial to all parties concerned.

When the queen bore a son, Adimon was involved in the plan to kill Prince Caspian, a plan he agreed with for in his eyes, the prince was too weak and superstitious to be a very good king.  Adimon believes that the biggest mistake of his career was when Caspian disappeared without Adimon knowing a thing about it in advance. This has led to war, as Caspian has raised up a rebel band.  Adimon hates warfare, and would much rather have seen Caspian killed quickly and quietly rather than experience the carnage that a civil war causes.  While Adimon feels certain Miraz can crush the rebellion, it is taking longer than he expected.  Meanwhile, he is working even harder than usual to help the king, in the hopes of making up for his earlier mistake.

Quote
Queen Lucy sat by her open window, gazing out at the beautiful day. Her room was high enough that she could look beyond the castle walls and see the lush green fields and majestic forests. As she sat there, she sighed. She loved this place so much. Though she had only been here for 6 years, she could hardly remember life before she had first come through the wardrobe. She didn't like to think of it anyway, for what she did remember was mostly sad and gray.

Just then, a twittering interrupted her thoughts. She looked up to see a sparrow fly in through the window and land gracefully on her bent knees.

"Why, hello, Kiki!"

"G'day, y?majesty!" The small bird dipped her head in respect. "Lady Meliara sent me here to greet you and your royal siblings and to inform you that she ought to be home in a couple of days."

Lucy nodded at the report. She knew that Mel had gone to Archenland to personally deliver the invitation for the tournament, as she had wanted to visit her family there. The healer had been there for a few weeks, and now, according to her little friend Kiki, she would be home soon.

"Thank you, Kiki. Would you like to stay for some refreshment?"

"No'm, but thank ye. I'd like t'get meself home."

"Of course! You've been away for awhile. I'm sure Mel was glad of your company, though!"

"Thankee, y?majesty." Kiki bobbed her head again. "Enjoy yer day!"

"Good-bye!" Lucy watched the young bird fly away. Mel would be home soon! That was good news, for she missed the healer greatly. Why, I should go meet her at the border! she thought suddenly. I'm sure Mel would love it, and I wouldn't mind going for a ride. It would be a day's journey there and a day's journey back, but she could spend the night with Duffle and his brothers, three dwarfs who lived near the Archenland border.

With that decided, Lucy went to let her siblings know what she planned.
