Any bookworms here? (:

Me, I'm currently reading a lot of books, ahah.

1) The Qur'an
2) The Communist Manifesto Finished!
3) The Motorcycle Diaries
4) Fahrenheit 451
5) The Silver Chair
6) No god but God Finished!

I totally recommend The Motorcycle Diaries, Guevara's writing is simply amazing--- this book really makes me want to visit South America!

Let's see...

Currently, I'm reading Princess Ben by Catherine Murdock. I'm not that far into it, but I like what I've read so far.

So far this summer, I've also read:
Princess Academy by Shannon Hale; Legacy by Lois McMaster Bujold; The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory; Miles, Mystery, and Mayhem by Bujold; The Curse of Chalion by Bujold; Passage by Bujold; "Borders of Infinity" by Bujold; Brothers in Arms by Bujold; Mirror Dance by Bujold; Memory by Bujold; Komarr by Bujold; A Civil Campaign by Bujold; "Winterfair Gifts" by Bujold; Ever by Gail Carson Levine; The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis; Diplomatic Immunity by Bujold; Cordelia's Honor by Bujold.

Lots of Lois McMaster Bujold books in there! She was recommended to me, and while I don't typically read much Sci Fi, I've absolutely loved her Vorkosigan series (I have one left to read in that series). Fantasy is my preferred genre, but I actually haven't liked Bujold's fantasy series as much, though I still enjoyed them.

Gail Carson Levine's Ever was rather disappointing, though it was still a quick and fun read. Princess Academy was another fun and easy read. And I loved The Other Boleyn Girl!

Next on my reading list is probably The Book Thief by Mark Zusack, and several books by Sherwood Smith. Oh, and I'll be re-reading The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, as that's the theme of the summer school class I'll be teaching in Morocco starting next week.

I'm a huuuge bookworm! =P

What I've read so far this summer...

1. The Good Earth by Pearl Buck - for summer reading. It was... hmm... an intense read. Interesting, but hard to finish. I was mainly interested in it because I live near one of Buck's homes when she was alive. I even got a tour.
2. Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson - depressing! *deep sigh* But thought-provoking and very well written.
3. Don't Die, My Love by Lurlene Mcdaniel - Horrible! I bought it at my school's book fair because I'm into romance, but I made a bad choice. Ugh. Such a 1930s writing style. Depressing, sappy, ew! Ew ew ew.
4. Vampire Kisses by Ellen Schreiber - It was okay. I'm into vampires, but this book was a little over the edge for me. It was like a book written for 10-year-olds, but with PG-13 rated content. I think I'll stick with Twilight.
5. Just Listen by Sarah Dessen - Actually, I'm only a couple chapters into this one, but it seems SOOO much better than the last couple of books I've read.
6. The Host by Stephenie Meyer - even though I read this before all the ones listed above, I wanted to save it for last! =] I LOVED this book! The first half was a little slow, but it got really exciting. The end was spectacular. The book was huuuuge... the longest book I've read since The Deathly Hallows... but it was amazing.

Now for Breaking Dawn! I can't wait for August!!!!!

I must first say. I'm horrendously distracted and not reading anything on my list I had planned....

Instead I'm rereading old books and reminiscing.

Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse by S. Meyer. Really I'm doing this to prepare myself for the Breaking Dawn release Cheesy

Persuasion by Jane Austen. I normally hate Austen's work. I really adored this story.

The Bible and the Book of Mormon. I am a Buddhist but I have a Mormon father and I was baptized as a Lutheran. That said I have read MULTIPLE books of religion per college and for leisure. I normally skim and read passages of interest. It's a great companion to S. Meyer's works because she's a religious individual and it's easy to find similarities! Even more..it's FUN to actually think up theories based on stories in the Bible for Breaking Dawn.

ALL of George Orwell's books. YAY YAY YAY. He is my idol. I am in awe every time I read his work. Animal Farm and 1984 are AMAZING. Toss in a bit of Ayn Rand and I'm amused for daaayys. I mean I named my turtles Ayn and Orwell. Cheesy

I want to read The Host so much but the library doesn't have any extra copies. I'm number 11 on the list to check it out Sad I would buy it but I'm poor and going to Comic Con at the end of the month

BY THE WAY...

Good Earth was one of my FAVORITE reads in High School! I think i may have kept the book actually. I was more interested in it because I like anything Asian....so Chinese...and reading THAT side of the story. Amazing. <3 Alot of people don't like it though.

Oh, I've flipped through the Book of Mormon! See, some Mormons were giving out free copies on the street so I grabbed one. I vaguely remember the guy telling me, "Mitt Romney is NOT a true Mormon!" Haha. And that's really cool that you're a Buddhist--- what kind?

Ohh, yeah, a lot of my friends are saying The Host is really good. The thing is that I read the Twilight series and it wasn't really for me for some reason, so I don't know if I'll like The Host.

Anyway, why don't you try some other libraries in neighboring towns? Or, I dunno. In Massachusetts we have the Minuteman network, which means that you can take out/return/reserve books at any library in the network--- and that's a lot :DD

Letica---

The Book of Mormon is...interesting...
Shin Buddhism (Jodo Shinshu) is what I practice. Of course practice isn't the right word to use I think..it's more what I live by Cheesy

My understanding is that the Host is written for adult audiences where as the Twilight series is geared towards young adults. All the reviewers said Ms. Meyer made a wonderful transition with this book into the adult genres....I'm looking forward to reading it.

and actually I've tried the neighboring towns. Sad the neighboring down is where I'm down on the reserve list. It's my town that doesnt even have it

Haha, yeah, I remember that episode from South Park where this Mormon kid comes to school and in the end, the lesson is that maybe you don't agree with some religions but if they teach people to be nice guys and good people and such, you should just respect them and not care what their religion is as long as they're nice guys :DDD

And that's really neat! I have a friend who's a Theravada Buddhist (:

Yeah, I dunno why I didn't like Twilight, but I think that the interesting thing was that, in my case, Stephanie Meyer's writing seemed to improve as the books went on. As in, Eclipse was way better than Twilight. So I'm looking forward to reading The Host (:

Aw, I'm sorry! Well, let's hope you can get your hands on it soon.

I don't know what this counts as, but I recently checked out Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's blog. That guy, in my opinion, is absolutely BONKERS but still, it's a good idea to try to see where he's coming from I guess.
http://www.ahmadinejad.ir/

And another blog... Bobby Henderson's! This guy is amazing, and he founded my religion so yeah, haha.

His entries are (almost) always so interesting and amusing!

I'm reading stuff for school, mainly.  But I'm about to begin the audiobook The Hallowed Hunt by Lois McMaster Bujold (I just finished the book that came before it in the series) and I'm already listening to The Enchanted Castle by E. Nesbit.

if audio books count, then i'm "reading" the lords of the rings  via audio book, and following along in my copies of the actual books, currently I am on Fellowship of the ring, and will probably be on that book (at least the written one, possibly audio book too) for about six months or so, they're pretty thick. Then again so are the Twilight books, of which i have read all four (and own Breaking Dawn) and must say they are good, and yet i finished them within a few weeks per book. i'm also rereading  the Lion,  the Witch and the Wardrobe, as well as reading  That Was Then by Melody Carter and Maggie's Story which I can't remember the name of the author of.

I love audiobooks, as they allow me to multi-task, to some extent! Although I just realized that my phone will play some audiobooks that would previously only work on my computer and not on my iPod, so that's proven to be dangerous to my schoolwork...

From what I've heard, The Lord of the Rings is definitely more dense than the Twilight books (I've read LotR, but not Twilight).  Actually, I really need to re-read LotR!

At any rate, this weekend, I read His Majesty's Dragon by Naomi Novik, which I downloaded free from the publisher here.  I love free e-books! Although now I have to go find the rest of the series, because I liked this one so much.  It really is a smart idea to give away the first book in a series free...

Well currently I'm attempting to make my way through Inkheart, but I've taken a break on that (since it's a thicker book) to read Coraline real quick. I hardly started Inkheart so it won't be too hard to pick back up, but from what I did read of it I can't wait to get back to it! and then I'll probably have to read the series too (since I hear it is a series) Cheesy

Can I just say that I hated Stephanie Meyer's books? All of them? And yay for reading the Book of Mormon. As a Mormon myself, I've read it... multiple times. (Stephanie Meyer is also a mormon...but again, I dislike her books. Yeck.)

But anywho, I am currently re-reading 2 of my all time favorite novels:
1.) Passage to India, by EM Forster
2.) Sense and Sensibility, by Jane Austen

!!!!!! I can not believe that you hated all of the the Twilight series!!! I absolutely loved her books... And as for reading them again, I don't like to read books again and again, only if I have to. We're reading this book in schol called The Misfits, I don't know who the author is, and I don't really like the book since it's much too easy. It's all about "bullying", which apparently the principle thinks we have a problem with, so everyone in the school has to read it... Anyway, I'm reading Brisingr by Christopher Poalini and nothing really else... More school stuff like Greek myths.

Didn't like Twilight either. She was in my major at my school, and I still don't like it. Sorry! I like snarky narratives and parodies, mostly. Anti-angst (as shocking as that sounds). Though I actually like Gothic novels as a field of study. It would be interesting to investigate Twilight as revived Gothic. . . hmmm. Bet it's been done. Cheesy

Love The Book of Mormon. Trying to get through the second half of the New Testament right now, but that's next. I cycle through the Bible and the Book of Mormon.

This week I read four books (UGH! MY LIFE!) I taught:
Dead Man Walking (by Sister Helen Prejean)
and
Monster (by Sanyika Shakur)

For class I read:
Melmoth the Wanderer (by Maturin)
and
Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin.

Okay so I'm 1/2 way through some of that. This week was a record 1,000 pages of reading. EEP! So noy going to bed tonight.

Over Christmas I started Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell and am DYING to get back to it. Three of my passions: satire, magic, and Napoleonic Wars IN THE SAME BOOK!!!

I haven't read Twilight, and I'm not sure I want to, based on the reviews of people who like similar books as me. But I do have some friends who absolutely love it, so who knows they may finally be able to talk me into it.

I've been meaning to read Brisingr, if only because I read the first two novels, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. I think my brother has the book, though, so maybe I'll read it this summer.

Man, Melissa, 1,000 pages of reading? That's intense. I read most of The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin for school a few years ago, and found it really interesting. Haven't even heard of the other books you mentioned, though.

And Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell is another book I've been meaning to read! I do love the cover of that book, too. (The Twilight covers are also great!). But yes, satire, magic, and the Napoleonic Wars are pretty amazing. One of the reasons I loved His Majesty's Dragon was that it had the Napoleonic War with dragons!!!

I wish I could read more fiction for school.  I have the hardest time getting through non-narrative books, no matter how interesting the subject. So half the time I just don't do the reading assigned...

I've just finished reading The Catcher in the Rye for English. Not a big fan of it. I found it boring, even though its supposed to be a 'classic'. Right now I'm reading Vampire Stories which is a compilation of stories by different authors, including Bram Stoker and Anne Rice. Very interesting so far. I would like to read Brisingr as well, but its so expensive. I'm waiting until I can find it in paperback so it'll be cheaper. I've completely given up on the Twilight series. I got fed up with those books after Eclipse. But I decided to give Stephenie Meyer another chance and I'm reading another one of her books called The Host. I haven't gotten to far into it yet so I can't tell you much about it.
