I've been hearing introductions whisperings of RPGs outside of Narnia. Which is fabulous!

Sadly, all of my RPGs (done mostly through Yahoo! Groups, the medium most comfortable to me) have dwindled down. I have a Pirates of the Caribbean RPG (if anyone's interested) that has only one other member, but she is an English professor and writes fabulously and fun characters. We would love for ANY of you to join. (I'll put up an ad or PM me.)

But I'm curious. Do any of you know of any Harry Potter RPGs? I'm looking for ones that would be needing professor characters as well as students (I've got some in mind) or Lord of the Rings (again, I've got a character in mind; a VERY fun mischief maker). I also was once in a Three Musketeers RPG, but I don't expect to find any more of those. Sad

I appreciate the calibre of writers this RPG tends to draw and am interested if there are any similar ones in other genres.

I don't know of any Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings RPGs off-hand, but I'm sure there are some good ones!  (RPG-D is a great resource for finding RPs. You can browse their ad boards or put out a request stating exactly what you're looking for and people will come to you.)

The other RP I'm in right now is a Disney one.  I find it's nice, because there's not just one coherent plot. Everyone is basically dreaming (though doesn't know it), so you can RP with any other Disney character at any place, even if it wouldn't usually make sense.  If you like PotC, there are several of those characters open. Actually, I'm Lucy over there as well, and the Peter Pevensie and I had a thread going with Jack Sparrow that died because our Jack left. So it would be fun if we got another Jack (hint, hint Wink )!

I'm also writing up a character application right now for a Tortall RP. Have you read any of Tamora Pierce's Tortall books?  It's based on that world, though it takes place about 40 years before her earliest book set in that world, and you can get by without having read the books. Anyway, it looks like a fun RP (though since I'm not really a writer, the caliber of the writers is a bit intimidating to me!), and so I'm hoping to join it soon! It's called Corus.

Corus looked good. I've always loved the Tortall series, but they never seemed to garner enough fans on the net for RPGs. Or maybe I just wasn't looking properly.

Anyways, there's loads of Harry Potter RPGs out there, just beware that some are pretty poor quality. One you won't find on RPG-D is Magical Hogwarts, I played there once, but it's a huge community, and can be overwhelming to get started. But they've got some good quality writers there.

Another thing you could do is check out our own Ads forum, at the bottom of the main board. Many sites post their own ads there, and even if that site isn't interesting, the ads posted on their site can be.

Hm, well I don't know of any Harry Potter or LOTR RPs... I know there's a lot of Harry Potter ones out there, though, and I remember once searching around slightly for LOTR RPs and not really finding one. Then again, that was ages ago and I probably didn't know where to look. haha.

I'm on a site called First Impressions. But its based on Jane Austen novels, and all the characters are combined (with lots of original characters as well) in this little town named Middleton. It's basically just a Regency RP, so you'd have to like that sort of thing. And I doubt that's what you're looking for, but hey! It's fun. ;]

I would agree with, Misha... You should check the RPG Directory. There's like a whole section just on Harry Potter RPGs there. Should help ya out! :]

Oh, and Misha... What's that Disney site called? It sounds fun! Don't know that I'll join, but I'd kinda like to check it out. :] Is it the Fantasia one I see advertised around?

Hey, thanks everyone for your replies! This is great!

Yeah, I was once GM of a Tortall RPG that had a pretty long life, but eventually it died out. Not sure I'm as interested in Tortall anymore, but I'll check Corus out!

As for First Impressions, that sounds delightful. Though I wouldn't call myself an avid Austen fan (I am very interested in her work Northanger Abbey, I am focusing my research in school in the long 18th C., the rise of the novel, satire, the French Revolution . . . all that. So while 1819 is about 30 years off, I think I could come up with a pretty good character. . . Who do you play?

I actually like historical RPGs (almost all of my Pirates of the Caribbean characters, for instance, are historical figures). French Revolution/Scarlet Pimpernel role plays are the best, but they're hard to come by and I haven't liked any of the ones I've entered, really. I'm not sure if you've noticed, but I love political/military intrigue and power relations. (cough cough) Okay, so I'm pretty obvious about that.

Raeka - I did forget to include the link, didn't I? Yeah, it's the Fantasmic one. I like it, because it's pretty laid back due to the "plot". You can find ways to be pretty active (though it seems to be rather slow lately), or you can post only occasionally.

I'd never looked for Tortall RPs before, but from doing research for my current character, it seems like there the number of Tortall RPs is similar to the number of Narnian ones (well, the number of Narnian ones when a movie hasn't just come out). In other words, there are quite a few, but many don't last long.

I go through advertisements all the time!  Well, mostly I do it to find places to advertise myself, but I've also bookmarked and even joined several of the sites I've found through advertisement surfing.

I really like Jane Austen, and actually looked at joining First Impressions.  Corus grabbed me first when I was looking for a new RP recently, though, and I think my current three are enough for now.  But I do have the site bookmarked, and may join it later.

Your research sounds really interesting! I'd love to hear more about it sometime, as I find the 18th century pretty interesting. (And I do love Northanger Abbey!)

Ohh yes, Fantasmic! I've seen it about before. Sounds pretty cool, if I ever decide to join another site I'll probably look into it. And, I'm such a Jack Sparrow fan that that kinda tempted me, but I'm afraid I don't have time at the moment...

And Melissa! You joined FI! Yayyy. :] My characters are Lancelot Eversly, Daphne Mandell, Armando Castello Roskin, and Ariana Castello Roskin (what is it with me making four characters and two of them being siblings?? o.o that just hit me now! LOL. So weird!)

By the way Misha, should you ever have extra RP time we'd love to have you over at First Impressions! It's amazing that you have it bookmarked though. Yay! :]

And I'm quite saddened to say I haven't read Northanger Abbey yet! D: I know it's awful, but I'm working through Jane Austen in order of her publications and I'm currently in the midst of Emma, but it'll be a bit 'til I finish that one, because I'm reading some other books at the same time.. Hehe. But I adore Jane Austen's works and I've heard that Northanger Abbey is one of her best, so I'm excited to read it! :]

I don't know if you're looking, but I recently joined this fabulous little site- Lock and Key. Basically, it's an Elizabethean-era RP, with amazing subplots and whatnot. A majority of the canons are based on historical figures and it's really quite interesting. And if it's Harry Potter you're interested in, I know of one site, set in the 1940's, and the other in the Marauder's era.... Yeah. So let me know if you'd like more info for any of those. <3
