About You
Name: Pinkie
Age: 15
How did you find us: RPG directory
Rules Password: [Password Accepted ~Misha]

Character Basics

Dreams do come true, if we only wish hard enough. -J.M.B.

Name: “Clara Bosque-Hernandez, thanks much.”
Alias(es)/Nickname(s): “I’ve heard Clara, Claire, Claire-Bear, Bosie (pronounced: BOW-see, rhymes with Posey). The head maid usually refers to me as Bosque and my cousins call me Clumsy, but you don’t need to know that.”
Gender: “I'm a woman, and I can prove it.”
Age: “Nineteen candles on the cake.”
Race: “My cousins insist that I must be part ogre, but I assure you I’m fully human...I think.”
Status/Title: “I’m the niece of royal horse breeder which somehow landed me the job of a chamber maid, how else I would have gotten it I have no idea.”
Affiliation: “Uhhh...I’m from Telmar sooo...”

Character Appearance
Hair: “I’ve got brown, curly hair that I am very proud of. My aunt say’s it’s just like Mamá’s.”
Eyes: “My eyes are dark brown and sharp as a tact. I don’t miss a thing.”
Overall: Clara is tall for a girl, and skinny. She has a rather boyish figure with broad shoulders, small hips and a flat chest. She has big hands and feet that are quite inconvenient as well as unfashionable. Despite some of these gangly features, Clara is rather handsome. She looks much like her mother in facial structure and colouring. Her brown curls and dark brown eyes are exactly like her mother’s. She has a clear complexion with little blemishes and no freckles. Clara has a dark complexion, like her parents, though it is not as dark as some. Overall, Clara is actually rather plain, though she has one very distinct mole just below her left ear.
Bleck. I’ll edit that so it’s easier to read.
Portrayal: Emmy Rossum

Character Personality
Likes: “Oh golly, this might be a rather long list. People, talking, reading, books, learning new things, my aunt and uncle, the ring mamá left me and being told I’ve done a good job.”
Dislikes: “Hmm...I’ve always been told not to complain, but if you insist...*takes big breath* working, my cousins, stupid people, dung of all kinds, being scolded, bunking things up, cooking, disgusting foods, being told I can’t and banquets—I always have to get up extra-extra early when the queen decides to have one of those.”
Strengths: “I’m very observant and I’m also a quick learner. Once heard, never forgotten is how my brain works. I’m also rather strong for a girl, which is why I guess I always end up getting the manual labour at work. I’m pretty optimistic for a pessimist, you know. I’m realistic when it comes to most things, but I always like to believe there’s something better out there just within your reach. Though I can be a bit of a dunce when it comes to mending and things like that, I’m still a hard worker, and once I set my mind to something I absolutely will NOT give up.”
Weaknesses: “I’m awful to wake up in the mornings and have a bit of a temper. I’m easily angered and stubborn when it comes to holding grudges. I always like to have my way; no if’s, and’s, or’s or but’s. I’m also a bit of a klutz, hence the nickname ‘Clumsy Clara’, which I think is completely prejudice and stereotypical. Just because my name is Clara doesn’t automatically make me clumsy...even if I am. I tend to get distracted easily and get myself into quite a few scrapes.”

General Personality:
[C.L.E.V.E.R]
Clara loves learning new things, especially about places and people she’s never seen before. She’s been able to read ever since she can remember; her uncle says her father use to joke about Clara being born reading. When her work load isn’t too strenuous, Clara can be caught reading in the royal library, hidden behind some shelf or another. The current king and queen don’t use it very often and sometimes Clara can get away with sneaking a book or two home without the caretaker noticing.

[S.T.U.B.B.O.R.N]
Because Clara knows she’s so clever, she is often very stubborn about her opinions. She always believes she’s in the right and can’t ever be convinced otherwise. Even when she sees she’s on the losing end, Clara pushes harder to make people see her point of view. It’s extremely hard for her to admit defeat, and when she does, she’s almost scarier than when she is victorious.

[D.E.T.E.R.M.I.N.E.D]
Clara has a tendency to botch up almost everything she touches, but that still doesn’t shake her. When she sets her mind to something it is easier to move a mountain than convince her to give up. She’s strong-willed and incredible at persevering. Clara has a love for trying new, different things and won’t stop until she’s mastered them all. She sees herself as something far more than maid.

[I.M.A.G.I.N.A.T.I.V.E]
Picasso once said, “Everything you can imagine is real.” Though Clara has never heard of Picasso she definitely believes those words. She has a wild imagination and the ability to spin stories that can entertain her younger cousins for days. When she was younger she use to scare even herself with her ghost stories whenever she went into the woods. She takes credit for many of the superstitions surrounding a particular well near the forest edge (whether she deserves it or not is another matter). As a result of her lively imagination Clara often daydreams about another life. It is impossible for her to see how a simple maid is important in the grand scheme of things. She is constantly longing to be someone else; a hero like the ones in her stories.

Character History
Parents: “Papa and Mama died before I was five, my mother’s sister and her husband took me in.”
Siblings: “My parents died before they could have any siblings for me, but that doesn’t mean I’m lonely. I’ve got plenty of company in my mob of cousins. There’s thirteen of them!”

General History:
Clara was born to Adrian Bosque-Vaquero and Rosa Bosque-Hernandez in mid October, just in time for harvest. It was good year and Adrian didn’t fail to brag that their good fortune was all thanks to his new baby girl. She became well known within the first few hours of her life, hence the name “Clara” which means “Illustrious”. The Bosque’s were incredibly excited about their new daughter and did the best they could for her. She received gifts and Adrian always made sure they contained only the very best of things. Nothing was too good for his baby girl.

It was soon very obvious how clever Clara was. Adrian became very excited and had her reading by the age of two. He started mathematics on her and took her to look at the stars with him, pointing out all the different constellations. There wasn’t a doubt in Adrian’s mind that his daughter would be brilliant.

Adrian was still young when Clara was born, and five years later he was just as vigorous and just as patriotic. When seven lords whom were friends of the late King decided to voyage out to see, Adrian was ready and willing to go with them. He was confident that he’d return with stories to fill Clara’s head with and gold to fill her pocket. Rumours were heard that the ships sailing were lost at sea and Adrian was never heard from again. A broken-hearted Rosa died the next winter from pneumonia.

Clara’s uncle, the royal horse breeder, took her in. His wife was more than willing to take on the daughter of her dead sister and thought she would fit in quite nicely with her nine other children. When Clara turned eleven, her uncle decided it was time for her to pull her own weight (he had eleven children by that time). He found a position for Clara working in the castle as a maid; because she was not a noble woman she could not have the position of Lady-in-Waiting, but she was a gentleman’s daughter and therefore had more status than a simple scullery maid.

Bhavnana-the castle’s eyes, ears and hand of justice-quickly noticed how easily Clara picked everything up and was convinced that the girl would make a good worker, what she didn’t account for was the imagination that came along with the clever head of curls. Clara soon had the castle in a ruckus with her tales of horror and gore. She got herself into heaps and heaps of trouble because of her daydreaming and playacting. However, it kept the castle life lively and many of the castle hands grew very fond of Clara, even the strict Bhavnana (though she’d never admit it and Clara would never guess it).

Clara was present when Queen Prunaprismia gave birth to the new prince. She was excited, as everyone else was in the castle. She watched the fireworks with gleaming eyes after a long night, never guessing that Prince Caspian was making his escape. The next day she heard that Narnians had come and kidnapped him. Clara was shocked by this news, but not so much as most Telmarines. She had always been hopeful, if not suspicious, that there were actually animals that talked and trees that danced, however, hearing that her dream creatures had come to life and kidnapped her prince wasn’t exactly a dream came true. Clara quickly moved to help everyone in the castle who was preparing themselves to get the young prince back.

There were rumours going around the castle that there was more that met the eye about this whole affair though. Word spread through the staff that there was unrest between Miraz and the council. The council was still loyal to King Caspian’s memory, as was the rest of Telmar, but rumours had begun to spread that Miraz was not so loyal to his brother. There was even talk about the death of the king. Clara’s uncle joined in on the fiery talks held at the local taverns between patriots. They spoke of freedom and democracy; they spoke of treason. Clara’s uncle swore that if Lord Glozelle ever decided to revolt against the tyranny of Miraz, he was fully behind him. There were many others who shared the opinion in the castle.

Clara, however, didn’t know what to think. Everywhere she went in the castle now there were whispers about treason. Clara would always be loyal to the sweet Queen, but she also could not betray her family. When talk of war with Narnia broke out, Clara was forced out of her dreamy childhood. For eighteen years she had done nothing but dream and tell stories, but the events occurring around her are quickly forcing her to grow up, and Clara will have to choose a side. The King, her country or the tales she had always believed in.
Sorry for the excessive length. If there’s anything you think I ought to scrap feel free to say so.

Other/Notes: Because the Telmarines are based off of Spaniards I decided to use a bit of their culture and language. It is common in Spanish families to not have a middle name but take on both the surnames of one’s parents. The dominant name would be first and go right after the child’s Christian name and the secondary name would go after the first. When a woman gets married she drops her mother’s surname and adopts her husband’s. Her father’s name becomes secondary and her husband’s becomes dominant.

In my own little corner in my own little chair
I can be whatever I want to be
On the wings of my fancy I can fly anywhere
The world will open its arms to me

Vadraenian wielded his sword and challenged the Tarkaan. The Calormene laughed at the hero’s actions, revealing yellowed teeth with his smile. ‘You laugh now, Sir,’ Vadraenian said to the Tarkaan, ‘But you shan’t when my sword is in your belly.’ The dark man was not fazed by the Vadraenian’s words, however. He stood confidently and calmly in front him and spoke as one with a cool head. ‘Those are bold words for someone in a strange country,’ said the Tarkaan. ‘One oughtn’t be so bold when thou art the foreigner. T’is better to be weary of thy host; for, tis them who shall speak for or against your behalf when thou art confronted.’ Vadraenian sneered at the Tarkaan’s advice. ‘Does a host attempt to kill his guest, then? Pardon me sir, but I prefer my country’s mannerisms to yours.” With that Vadraenian slashed his sword through the air—

“BOSSSS-QUE!”

Clara jumped, nearly dropping the book and bucket in her hand. She had been so emerged in the adventures of Vadraenian the Bold that she had completely forgotten what she had been told to do. The pail of water swinging in her left hand was nearly empty now and the water that had sloshed out of it was soaking her dress. The hem of her skirt was nearly six inches deep in mud as a result of her carelessness. She knew she was in for a scolding.

“BOSSSS-QUE!”

A large, dark woman in her early fifties came bustling towards Clara on the muddy lawn. Her thick hands made fists around her skirts and she held them high as she walked, revealing strong, thicks calves. “BOSQUE!” The woman called again, her double chin shaking in anger and strands of streaked grey hair falling out of her loose bun. Clara looked at the book in her right hand and quickly shoved it into the pocket of dress before the old woman could see what had kept her from her work.

“Darn girl,” the woman muttered as she approached Clara. “Didn’t you hear me calling you? Are’yeh dumb, girl?” The woman’s face was more exasperated than angry. The lines on her face proved that she had smiled at one time, but now the tired eyes and crease between her brows caught the most attention. “Nomum,” Clara said. “Well then why didn’tch’ya answer, girl?” Clara opened her mouth. “No, never mind,” said the woman. “I know what the answer will be.” She rubbed her temples with her sausage-like fingers. “What am I going to do with you, Clara?” Clara reached out to touch the woman’s shoulder. “I’m sorry, Bhavie,” she said, rubbing the woman’s arm. Bhavnana shook Clara off. “Then stop your dilly-dallying.” She grabbed the half-filled bucket in Clara’s hand. “And go get more water!” she snapped. “I’ll take this.”

Clara smiled as she watched the woman make her way back to the castle. People said that the King ruled the country and the Queen ruled the castle, those people didn’t know anything about how things worked in the castle. Bhavanana ruled the castle with an iron fist; even the king’s steward followed her order. When he disagreed with her he could argue to his heart’s content, but she’d still win that fight. There was nothing that Bhavanana didn’t have control over on the castle grounds. Well, that was everything except Clara Bosque Hernandez.

Clara reached into her pocket and pulled out the book she had put away so rapidly. She opened it to the page she had been on and continued to read. “With that Vadreanian slashed his sword through the air...”
Ummm...so I guess it’s more like a story then a post, but it’s an example of my style. Obviously there won’t be so much dialogue in one post once I begin to roleplay.

I really like this! Detailed apps are always nice.

Keep in mind, however that the Telmarines (in the movies at least) are based off of Mediterraneans in general, not just the Spanish. And they do speak English. Also, while there can be rumours of anything, as of now, Archenland is on the Telmarine side against the Old Narnians (or is that what you meant?).

The main thing I'm waiting for before accepting this, however, is a sample RP post. So let me know when you've got this fixed, and I'll take another look!

Alright, it's edited!

Okay, could I have it be a family thing then? I mean Telmar is a country, there could be different family/community cultures in a country. Maybe the community that Clara grew up in was mostly spanish?

Oup, yup. That's what I meant. Sorry for the confusion. I edited it so there won't be any now.

Let me know if there's anything else I should change. Smiley

The Telmarines did all come to the Narnian world on one ship, and then all came over from Telmar to Narnia together, I think.  So while I'm sure distinct communities would have developed over time, I don't think any would be extremely different from the others. In my opinion, it's fine if you use elements of Spanish culture with your character (others have here as well). I just wouldn't go so far as to make your character distinctly Spanish, which means among other things, I wouldn't use any of the Spanish language in your posts (except maybe something like Mama' (can't do accents easily on this computer!) which is used in other languages as well).  For one thing, everyone in the Narnian world seems to speak English, though there are variants in wording and vocabulary.

At any rate, keep that in mind, but it's not a big enough deal for me to keep this from being

Accepted!
